There is no better way to explore the States with than via automobile. A drop-top, American muscle car to be more  fitting, comes with a playlist of old-school American tracks to fuel the long drive. While my previous trips have always centered around the city itself, the hubs and I have always wanted to tick the bucket list of road-tripping in the States, even when we had only managed to cover a part of the entire experience. From California to Nevada to the tip of Arizona; here’s our pictorial mood of the journey from LA and back. Crank this one up to set to the mood <3

At 17 degrees celcius morning with a gloomy, rainy weather to start the day. Following a tip from the site that leads us to a quiet residential area roads that brought us close to the sign. This is the closets I have been able to snap a photo of the famed sign.

Stopped by The Grove when hubs wanted to stock his running gear at Nike. I took my time to snap some photos by Farmer’s Market and the surrounding promenade.

They say The Ivy is a great place to do people watching, and you couldn’t have picked a better place to do so in Beverly Hills. I spent more time looking at their bags and shoes than paying attention to who was lunching at the spot. If you’re there for food, be wary that you can probably have better choice of menu elsewhere. If you’re staying to look at the ‘beautiful people’ like I did, then this hits the spot. Noticed that a number of well-known bloggers were lunching as they were toting the new season’s Dior bags and joaillerie.

Took this shot while lounging at a coffee shop in Marina Del Rey to sort our LA accomodation (because someone thought it would be a better idea to leave it to lastminute.com to score a better deal – no, dont do this). Since everywhere else was either booked, overpriced for what it was, and charges insane valet parking fees, we managed to score a boutique hotel near Westwood Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Day 2

Packed my OOTD-ready essentials for a day out at the star-studded Hollywood Boulevard. We planned to tackle Walk of Fame, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and our early hauls at a souvenir shop by Graumann’s and off to Griffith Observatory just to tick it off our list.

and an unworthy stop by Museum of Broken Relationship in LA. Like, $18 of remnants of people’s relationships displayed in fancy glass cases. Poignant, yes, but I’ve heard worse from friends.

Come sundown, we hastily drove over to the Santa Monica Pier just to catch the sunset and have dinner at my fave Mariasol Restaurant. Best decision ever.

DAY 3

Out to get prepared for our big Malibu Wine Safari trip, the hubs went out for a must-do jog around the boardwalk in Santa Monica-Venice Beach-Seal Beach. So I went around to snap pics while he runs his 15k adventure (none for me).

A quick change-up to fit the safari theme and we’re off for a 40 minute drive by the cliffs and canyons to the safari venue. We covered parts of the PCH 1 (Pacific Coast Highway route) on our drive there (there is a shorter route but a drive with a view is a better option!)

P/s: Please drive to Smashmouth’s Pacific Coast Party while you’re at it <3

Before you start, I am not a drinker, but entertaining the hubs for this section of the trip is a must. Plus, they also throw in some super cute animal feeding sesh n between the tasting stops.

The first stop is samping the whites: Zinfadels, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Overlooking the Simi Valley behind us, samples some tidbits along the way. I was happier with the cheese and crackers being fed to me.

While the hubs went sampling for the reds, I took my time photo-opping with the props around the ranch. Because, of course.

After taking out time at the wine safari, we booked a restaurant at Saddle Peak Lodge by Calabasas and Malibu. One of the best restaurants closest with us that served some awesome types of meat. It comes with a warm, rustic setting  and it will be the first for me to sample Elk steak!

Even the non-Asians couldn’t help but take pics of the awesome food presentation this place serves.

He took the option of a Game cobo plate of emu, bison and elk steak. Bison tastes exactly like cow meat, emu is too gamey for me but elk meat is something else <3 MUST TRY.

This brownie is to die for. And we slept real good after haha.

Day 4

Holy hell, its Vegas day!!

Image may contain: sky, tree and outdoor

A quick morning/brunch session at across-the-road’s Lenny’s (which served the most awesome light, crispy waffles I have ever had in my life!) we typed in our coordinates to Vegas and prepared ourselves for the 5-hour ride of our lives. As soon as you exit the LA skyline, the vibe just picked up from there. Perhaps it was being so exposed to LA in my previous trips, the change of scenery provided a much-awaited excitement, a sense of wander/wonder and together with a playlist complete with Fleetwood MAC, Abba, Elvis Presley’s Viva Las Vegas and even Journey’s “Dont Stop Believeing”  (hello, must do!!) it was just so surreal. Please dont go with the contemporary playlist of ‘roadtrip’ tracks you have today; it just doesn’t gel with the entire experience at all. Stick to the classics!

Image may contain: sky, outdoor and nature

A quick driver change-up in Barstow, which is almost half-way through the journey. We also made a necessary stop to refuel (as there are very little gas station stops throughout) and shop at the outlet center nearby.

Image may contain: sky, house and outdoor

I wish I would have picked the earlier driving shift because the drive through Mojave/Death Valley was unbelievable. Nothing but the tones of yellow, brown, grey and reds from the rolling hills and dried-up valley and of course the piercing blue skies above.

Image may contain: mountain, sky, tree, outdoor and nature

Had to make a necessary stop just so I can snap a photo of me driving of breaking the Nevada border line.

Image may contain: 1 person, standing, mountain, car, sunglasses, sky, outdoor and nature

Wearing the top I bought at the Griffith Observatory Center’s souvenir shop lol.

2 hours later, and I am sorry for this; is the hotel where we’re staying at:

Trump International Hotel

Image may contain: skyscraper, sky and outdoor

Image may contain: sky, tree, plant and outdoor

Image may contain: car

Before you start, no I do not support Trump, and the choice of hotel was made squarely by the hubs (yes!I just threw him under the bus) reason being is #1 it was the cheapest 5 star hotel in Vegas (for obvious boycotting reason) and #2 because it was one of the very few hotels with no casino in it. After walking over the other hotels in Vegas like the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and Flamingo that all equipped with casinos that are running for 24/7 (for real!) you’d have very little privacy and it was ridden with drunkards and roudy crowds kaching-ing (or nil) at the slot machines, and Trump seemed to be a popular choice (despite unpopular opinion) amongst those wanting to escape the noise of it all.

Done justifying the hotel, I mean it even sticks out like the gaudy sore thumb that it is in the distance, aih!

Image may contain: sky and screen

Not to mention this was right next door to it lol.

Image may contain: sky and outdoor

Yup, definitely in Vegas.

As we were hungry, we went to satiate our hunger with hubs’ next item on the bucket list: an authentic American smokehouse bbq to add to the food-hunting menu. He found one in close proximity to the hotel, called the Rollin Smoke Barbeque (little did we find out later that this was Rick of Pawn Star’s fame’s own chain of restaurants). Best barbeque meal I’ve had!!! I had the beef brisket burnt tips and they had a like 15 types of homemade barbeque sauces that we were spoiled to choose. I still have pangs of it from time to time sigh. And good god, America, PORTIONS!

Image may contain: one or more people and drink

With a logo like that, lets keep the assumption if it is halal or not out the window. It’s Vegas. Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas (?) No? LOL.

Image may contain: 1 person, sunglasses, outdoor and nature

We tried to walk off the calory load by walking back to hotel. I’m pretty sure Vegas is a desert (altho by name, i Spanish Las Vegas is translated to The Meadows) but how come these buds are blooming so well over here? :O

In typical malas Malaysian style, we went back for a nap only to realize I was only left a hour to go to catch one of its famed Vegas residency shows here; QUEEN BRITTER’s Piece Of Me! Scurrying to get ready, (and a shot of photo-opportunity to what I was wearing ha) we drove our way to Planet Hollywood. Since hubs is not watching the show, I made my way over to the entrance to catch Britney, with minutes to spare before the show starts.

Well 17 minutes and 5 minutes before the show starts btw. haha

Stopped by this for a burger meal.

It was plain. boring. I’ve had better burgers at KGB. Perhaps a twitter retaliation on all of the responses you’ve sent over to people is in order? (just prolly not prepared to listen to his fiery feedback haha).
